The mission of The University of Texas
at Austin’s
Athletic Training Educational
Program is to provide a quality undergraduate education,
by way of a CAAHEP
accredited entry-level program, for students pursuing a career
in athletic training. In
doing so, they strive to produce well-educated, well-trained,
and competent individuals
capable of providing effective athletic training services
while representing
themselves, the Program, the University and the athletic
training profession in a
positive manner.
In doing so the University of Texas at Austin accredits
specific clinical sites off-campus to help facilitate and
meet the needs of the Educational Program. These sites
must meet all of the CAAHEP requirements as Leander High
School does.
The Athletic Training Students use the clinical exposures
to improve and perfect their skills and knowledge while
learning decision-making skills in a supervised
environment.
Leander High School is currently in its second year serving
as an affiliated setting for the University of Texas’ CAAHEP
accredited entry-level program. Each Athletic Training
Student assigned to Leander High School will spend a semester
under the supervision of Dawn Allen ATC, LAT and Wayne
Lauritzen ATC, LAT. The Athletic Training Students are
involved in treatment, rehabilitation, practice and game
coverage of athletes while at Leander High School.
